Well, we made it to Europe! We traveled all day yesterday and into the morning. Traveling wasn’t particularly eventful but we did see fireworks as we were leaving and flying over Philadelphia last night. (Also, Happy 4th of July!!!) After we landed in Frankfurt we went through the passport check where the man behind the curtain (and by curtain I mean booth but he was ominous like the great Oz) seemed to be fascinated by my name and kept calling me “CassiRae” over and over and then proceeded to try to pronounce “Mendiola” quite a few times, without success. He then noticed that I was from Idaho and after saying this the other man in the both (the second Oz) stopped paying attention to the person he was supposed to be checking and with great excitement said “FAMOUS POTATOES!” So there you go Butch, even if some have recently been displeased with potatoes you will be happy to know that we are known for them regardless of their disputed nutritional value.
Nothing else too exciting happened and, after some slight confusion about Germany’s public transportation, we made it! We are staying in a neighborhood that basically looks like a Hollywood movie set, cobblestone included. It is the cutest little town (from what I’ve seen in my jet-lagged state) and I was a complete tourist all day snapping picture after picture. I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting but so far I am completely in love with this place, it is so idyllic and runs along a beautiful river called the Rhine. Here are some pictures and I will have more to report soon.
XOXO from Frankfurt
Cassi (aka CassiRae to my apparently fascinated passport readers)
