Gondolas and Bridges

7/8/2011
On Friday we left for VENICE!!! I’m writing my first part of this post at the airport while Eric reads. We had an interesting morning; I guess the actual travel part of traveling isn’t really our thing. As we were headed to catch the bus to the train station Eric asked if I had my money ready, which of course I did. Not. I had left it on the counter. We ran back inside to grab it, and there it was, thank goodness. But by the time I got it and ran downstairs it was too late to catch the bus. Fortunately, we were able to catch the very last taxi waiting outside and he took us in a flash to the train station and we were able to catch the airport shuttle. We got to the airport without any trouble (thank goodness.) It is obvious that our guardian angles are working a lot of overtime this trip.
P.S. There are NO drinking fountains in these countries. Not super pleased about that fact, water (without bubbles) is 2,50 euro for a little bottle. This must be a very dehydrated place.
We have had a great time in Venice so far. We flew here from Frankfurt and took a water taxi/bus to the main island where we are staying. When we got here on Friday we found some food and explored a little and went to little shops. It is very humid here so of course we stopped for gelato to cool off. We ate dinner outside at this cute little café in a square. We somewhat accidentally walked over to Piazza de San Marco aka the square of St. Mark’s church. This is the one place I told Eric I really wanted to see while we were here. We walked around and went to the water but didn’t go in. It was a wonderful first day in Venice.
